The Toys that Live Forever

It’s funny, throughout my kids lives the playroom has been a revolving door of toys, some stay for years, others just hours, but then there are those that seem to be perennial favorites that my kids always go back to.

My daughter was visiting a friend this weekend and came home with a Schleich T-Rex. This is a brand I grew up with so I’m always happy to see these figures, and really any creative toy, enter the house. I braced myself for what would happen next — either it was going to sit on my kitchen counter for weeks before getting thrown out or she would spend hours playing with it.

To my delight it was the latter. She ran to show her brother and before I knew it, all of the Schleich animals were on the floor and there were horses being trampled by dinosaurs, donkeys flying with dragons and some animal that I’m not even sure of was leading the whole pack. And my kids were playing together, with no screens and no fighting.

Three hours later my kids emerged. I think even they were surprised how long they had played. But it just goes to show that some toys and some brands really can stand the test of time in the playroom. I wish there were more…
