Keeping the Kids Occupied

I love my children. And while I want to spend time with them and try to be that perfect mom who doesn’t just hand them a tablet or the TV remote, it’s just not realistic in this crazy world we’re living in today.

I’m trying to balance the junk that they watch on their devices with fun, learning tools and I have to admit, there are some really great things out there that even I’m enjoying. A few of my favorites:

hand2mind’s teach@home platform contains weekly content created by the company’s on-staff educators and real teachers! The platform includes teacher-led videos in math and literacy, as well as age appropriate activities in math, literacy and STEM. . Each week new content for students in grades K-5 is uploaded. The activities are designed to engage kids without needing support from their parents. And they’re having guest teachers and influencers join weekly.

Schleich’s Fun at Home page features imaginative play activities for all ages. They have pulled together a collection of creative ideas using the Schleich animals you have at home. You can access story starters, DIY projects, coloring sheets and more.

Little Medical School is designed to inspire and educate kids about the field of medicine. Follow them on Facebook to find videos and information geared towards kids about everything from how to wash your hands to understanding the medical terms about Coronavirus.

Plus-Plus offers free online educational resources that incorporate their Plus-Plus pieces to help children construct numbers and letters. There are also lessons that use the pieces for measuring and counting.

The beloved World of Eric Carle brand is here to lend a helping hand in homeschooling. Parents can download free World of Eric Carle-themed educational activity sheets, coloring pages or access. The Hungry Caterpillar Play School app features a curriculum for kids ages 2–6. There are also resources available to plan your own celebration of Very Hungry Caterpillar Day.

Good to luck to all the parents out there! We’re all in the same boat — we can do this!

I’m a stay at home mom of a 7 and 9 year old who don’t need me as much anymore, which means I have a lot of time to ponder what I want to be when I grow up.
