I just got the dreaded email from the school: the school year is coming to an end and your children have not finished their community service projects. Hours left: 28.

Well duh. Until last week my kids were remote learning in their bedrooms. They haven’t left the safety of my house in over a year. How in the world are they supposed to fulfill 30 hours of community service each?

They’ve cleaned their closets to find clothes, they took all of my canned goods from the pantry and they purged their toys. What else are we supposed to do?

I…

I know what you’re thinking, the pandemic has turned her crazy, she thinks her kids are chipmunks. While half of that sentence is correct, I am crazy, my kids are not literally chipmunks. They just discovered a new game called Hide ‘N Cheek.

This game is very cute. It comes with 4 chipmunk masks and the cheeks have pockets that expand to make room for acorns. You hide your acorns under little barrels and the kids have to find the acorns. Simple game, easy concept, big laughs.

My kids played with their 5 year old cousin last night. He of…

My kids are older now, but every once in awhile I get nostalgic for when they were little. This past weekend friends of mine visited and brought along their 18 month old daughter.

I’m always amazed at how different parenting is now than when I was raising my kids. Yes, I make it sound like they’re 100, but 6 and 8 years makes a difference. There are so many new gadgets and gizmos. Almost makes me want another one. Almost.

What really caught my eye though was this thing called a Kid Cover from a company called Kid Dazzle. We…

Today is my first day sitting down to write again after being quarantined — no sorry — sheltered in place — for almost 12 weeks. Me, my husband, my two kids, the dog, the cat and the goldfish. I’m jealous of the goldfish — he actually has his own space that no one can invade.

All that being said, I’m not one to move quickly, especially when it comes to the health of my family. …

I love my children. And while I want to spend time with them and try to be that perfect mom who doesn’t just hand them a tablet or the TV remote, it’s just not realistic in this crazy world we’re living in today.

I’m trying to balance the junk that they watch on their devices with fun, learning tools and I have to admit, there are some really great things out there that even I’m enjoying. A few of my favorites:

hand2mind’s teach@home platform contains weekly content created by the company’s on-staff educators and real teachers! The platform includes teacher-led…

My best friend is about to have a baby and I threw her baby shower this past weekend. It’s been awhile since I’ve been in that baby world and whoa, how things have changed! I was amazed at all the new things that parents have to make things easier — or at least give the impression of making it easier.

I was tempted, but I decided to stay classic and go with what I remember being the most important thing: the swaddle blankets. A good blanket can make all of the difference. …

To say it’s been awhile is an understatement. You’re probably wondering what in the world was she doing between Halloween and now? Did her kids tie her up and throw her in a closet for stealing their Snickers bars? Did she join the circus? Is she Santa Claus?

No to all of those, although those are much more interesting than the truth. The truth is I was busy being a mom and a human. From parent teacher conferences to soccer playoffs to music lessons to Thanksgiving for 10 to holiday concerts and parties and decorating and buying gifts and hosting…

It’s Halloween and it’s raining here in the Northeast. My kids don’t melt in the rain, but the idea of trudging out with an umbrella or sitting in the car, while they run up to get candy we don’t need is just unbearable. I don’t mean to sound like a witch, I love Halloween and watching the excitement it brings for my kids, but as a tired mom, this sucks.

So I’ve devised a new plan for this year: the Halloween Toy Obstacle Course. I bought a bunch of Halloweeny themed toys and I’m setting up a trick or play…

It’s funny, throughout my kids lives the playroom has been a revolving door of toys, some stay for years, others just hours, but then there are those that seem to be perennial favorites that my kids always go back to.

My daughter was visiting a friend this weekend and came home with a Schleich T-Rex. This is a brand I grew up with so I’m always happy to see these figures, and really any creative toy, enter the house. …

I love back to school shopping, in part because it’s a light at the end of this long tunnel called summer with my kids, and in part because I absolutely love office supplies.

So you can imagine my dismay when the school supply lists came through my inbox and the first thing on the list was an iPad pencil. An iPad pencil? For my 6 and 8 year olds? I barely have an iPad, my kids don’t have iPads, why in the world do they need an iPad pencil?

Being that person, I called the school to ask wtf. The…

I’m a stay at home mom of a 7 and 9 year old who don’t need me as much anymore, which means I have a lot of time to ponder what I want to be when I grow up.
